The Manaslu Circuit is considered by many experienced trekkers to be the 'better Annapurna Circuit' — a complete circumnavigation of Manaslu (8,163m, the world's 8th highest peak) through remote Gurung and Tibetan Buddhist villages rarely visited by tourists. The Larkya La Pass (5,135m) crossing is one of the most dramatic and challenging passes in Nepal.
Arrive TIA. Hotel. Welcome dinner. Trek briefing and permit processing.
Passupatinath, Boudhanath. Evening: gear check and packing with guide.
7–8 hour jeep drive on the Prithvi Highway west and then the Buri Gandaki river valley.
Trek along the Buri Gandaki river through jungle and bamboo. 5–6 hours.
Continue up the increasingly narrow Buri Gandaki gorge. Jagat marks the entrance to the restricted Manaslu Conservation Area.
Trek deepens into the gorge — sheer walls, landslide debris, and the roaring river.
Significant altitude gain. Pass through Ghap and Lho with first dramatic views of Manaslu's south face.
Trek to the most culturally rich village on the Manaslu Circuit. Sama Gaun is a completely Tibetan Buddhist village with a 700-year-old gompa.
Acclimatization day. Morning hike up to Pungyen Gompa (4,000m). Afternoon visit to Birendra Lake — a glacial lake reflecting Manaslu.
Short 3-hour trek to Samdo — the last village before the Larkya La pass.
Trek to the base camp for tomorrow's pass crossing. High camp with basic facilities. Early dinner and early bed.
The biggest day of the trek. Pre-dawn start (3:00am). Cross the Larkya La Pass (5,135m) — views of Annapurna II, Lamjung Himal, Himal Chuli, and Ngadi Chuli. Long descent to Bimthang.
Descend through rhododendron forests and Gurung villages.
Final trekking day. Reach Dharapani where the Annapurna Circuit joins. Vehicle awaits.
Long drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar and the Prithvi Highway (7–9 hrs). Evening arrival.
Free day. Massage, shopping, or optional Bhaktapur visit.
Final Kathmandu day. Shop for thangkas, pashmina, and Tibetan crafts. Farewell dinner.
Breakfast. Airport transfer. You completed the Manaslu Circuit!
