KIRTIPUR: located 8 km southwest from Kathmandu city. Kirti mean ”Glory and Pur mean “City”. It was earlier a part of Patan (Lalitpur) till it was annexed into Kathmandu by Prithvi Narayan Shah in 1767. The ancient Newar township – with its brick-paved streets lined with typical red brick houses and tiled roofs, and temple squares – is a natural fortress. The major attractions are: The Chilamchu Stupa and the temple of Bagh Bhairav dedicated to the God Bhairab in the form of a tiger. Kirtipur is also the starting point for day hiking to nearby hills like Champa Devi from where you can get beautiful view of the Himalayas on a clear day.
